The animal ears are a Chinese fandom thing; most of their nicknames for the TK2010 version of the characters are based off of animals. Cao Cao is a rabbit because of this emoticon gif thing:

And I’m not sure why Sun Quan’s a tiger, but I’d guess that it’s because his father was called the Tiger of Jiangdong and passed the animal motif to his kids.
